batskeets: (yan!)
[personal profile] batskeets
I was reminded this morning of my irritation at religious bumper stickers and car paraphernalia that attempt to be clever, when I saw this on a license plate frame:

IN CASE OF RAPTURE
THIS CAR WILL BE UNMANNED

First of all, I don't know when a catch-phrase has ever convinced me to change a major life viewpoint. Give me a well-reasoned argument, and I might consider it, but one-liners aren't going to do the trick. Am I supposed to think to myself, "hey, if I square up with Jesus, maybe my car can go flying off a cliff when I ascend to a higher plane, too!"? If they're attempting to make me see the merit of their belief system with that kind of silliness, they're not succeeding. Are they just trying to be funny? I don't get it.

Second, it seems a little pompous to make the assumption that you're Saved and are automatically going to ascend to a higher plane when the Rapture comes, especially with all the argument and in-fighting about what God really wants from humanity. It's basically God's call to make, isn't it? Does Captain License-Plate really have *any* idea what God would decide at that point in time? Yeah, kinda doubt it. :p

...

In other news, I was supposed to start my paper route today, but apparently, the girl who used to deliver the route didn't get the message saying they'd found someone to take over the route, so she'd already gone and delivered the papers by the time I went down there to pick up the papers. Bugger all. Now she knows, though, so next week, it's all me!

Thanksgiving sure sneaked up on me. It's the day after tomorrow! How did that happen?

Practice was much-needed yesterday. I have my up and down periods when it comes to my wushu motivation, but usually when I start getting too down, something comes along to reignite the fire in my training! Yesterday? It was getting my right-leg landing back on jump-front-slap! I haven't had it since before my ankle injury, so that was *awesome*. And if that wasn't enough, I managed to nail a 450 degree rotation on my jump outside! I have no idea how it happened, but it means I'm halfway to a 540 outside, which is one of my goals for competition. Yee!

I also think I figured out an opening for my individual form, yesterday. It's probably rough around the edges, but it's something to work from. I was stuck on what to do for the beginning, but now I think I'll have an easier time composing the rest of the form... I have all kinds of ideas for what to put in the middle. :D

And of course, after hearing about Phil's visit and how he was practically busting out 720s in his sleep, I went into the weight room and did a bunch of squats, in the hopes that one day, maybe I will land 720s. ::rotfl:: I should keep doing the squats regardless, though, because it's supposed to help my knee problems.

I'm thinking about starting up an e-mail list, where I'd send out periodic messages that would basically be life updates, of sorts. I feel like people who don't see me as often don't really know what I'm up to, even some of the folks who read the LJ. So yeah, it'd probably sum up what I blather about on here, and also include some things that I don't say on here for whatever reason.

Any interest? Style me your e-mail address, assuming I don't already have it. :) It'd be more of a once-every-month-or-three type of thing.
