batskeetsWell, Portland was fun, but not as productive as I'd hoped, unfortunately. :p
First off, I dragged myself out of bed at 6:30am on Saturday, because I was supposed to be at a fountain in Portland by 9am for a shoot. True to form, we wound up getting there about 10 minutes late, because I'm god-awful at early mornings, but oddly enough, no sign of the photographer. After some text messaging, I learned that she wasn't going to show up, because her mother fell ill. I'm not sure *how* ill, because she didn't say, so it could've been serious. It's still a bummer, though, because I was looking forward to shooting, and if I'd known sooner, I could've gotten more sleep. Sigh. ^^;
Still, it turned out okay. The fountain was a really cool venue, and I got to take some potentially cool photos of the city and the skyline, and also played with shutter speed on the flowing water. :) Ben also shot me doing some random stuff in the fountain, so I didn't get all gussied up for nothing. And anyway, my face was kind of puffy and I was sleepy, so not having to work it for a new photographer was probably for the best.
The next failure to launch was a model that we were supposed to shoot; she apparently canceled at the last minute, too, so I guess that freed up the afternoon. ::eyeroll:: I think I was even more cheesed off about that, because I wanted to shoot some people, but I guess we're going to try to reschedule with her and hope she doesn't flake. So, we just did lunch and explored for a bit until Ben had to meet up with his parents for a Tom Petty show.
Meanwhile, I got a voice mail in the mid-afternoon from a photographer that I was supposed to shoot with in the evening. Thing is, the guy never really got back to me about what time we'd shoot, or what the plan was, so I just kind of assumed that we wouldn't be shooting, heh. He said it was okay if I couldn't make it, and he sounded kind of out of it in his message, and I *was* pretty out of it at that point, so I took the afternoon to myself, milled around at Powell's, and abused the free wi-fi until it was time to see...
Information Society!! That was a fun show. There were two opening bands, the first of which was rather fun and at one point did this crazy Johnny Cash cover, which I didn't even realize was a Johnny Cash cover, at first. Heh. :) The second opener, Son of Rust, is actually comprised of people that![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
alfonzobean knows! Anyway, they were really effin' good, and I enjoyed their set. InSoc, of course, was lots of fun, and it was pretty crazy to be seeing them play live, but man, SO GOOD. I got to dance a little, too, when I wasn't being elbowed or nearly stage-dived upon by people with bad personal hygiene. ;p I didn't manage to find anyone I knew at the show, and I had to bail pretty quick after the encore, but I'm still glad I went.
Sunday, fortunately, actually went according to plan! ;p We'd wandered through Chinatown the day before, which reminded me that, damn, I hadn't had dim sum in a long, long time, so we went to House of Louie and had some! I have to bring a bigger crew the next time, though, so we can get more different kinds of food.
After that, we rolled on over to the park downtown to shoot with a photographer for a poetry book. Originally, it was just going to be me in front of the lens, but then she asked me a couple of days ago if I knew any male models, because she needed one of each for one of the poems in the book. I don't, but Ben was willing to try it, so we wound up shooting for that poem, instead. We also walked around town with her for a bit after getting the poetry shots, and modeled in whatever odd little spots looked interesting. I liked working with her; she was really nice and very laid-back, and she has some other projects in progress that could prove interesting, so I might work with her again in the near future. :)
Oh yeah, here's a sneaky peek. There are some weird JPG artifacts, because I haven't gotten CDs yet, but I still like it, and you can also see how crazy-short my hair is on the shorter side of my head.
Anyhoo, after that, we biffed around town a little more and drooled over lenses at Camera World, and then rolled on back to Eugene. So, yeah, not exactly the productive weekend we'd planned on, but it was still a lot of fun. :)
