"More DOTs, More DOTs! Okay, stop DOTs."
Jul. 11th, 2006 02:53 pmSo, I forgot to post yesterday. Oooops!
The gallery opening on Friday was pretty unusual, but knowing the artist's work, I kind of expected that. The place is actually an eclectic little shop that sells all kinds of unusual artwork and paraphernalia, and has a really random and interesting selection of used CDs and vinyl. I kind of want to go back sometime and take a second look at the CDs, because there was some stuff in there that I'd never have expected to get my hands on without using some obscure online means.
One thing that we definitely have to look into--and that any photographer/artist should, really--is finding coffee shops and other places that'll post artwork. There are so many kitschy little places around Eugene that'll apparently put up artwork for free! It seems like it might be worth it, just for the exposure.
On Saturday, I went up to Portland for the fashion show audition, and I'm in like Flynn. Yay! There wasn't a lot to it; they had us bust out the heels and practice the ol' catwalk strut, and I was a little concerned that my walk would be all messed up, because my ankle injury makes it tough to walk in heels--I essentially have to do that Peg Bundy hobbling thing 95% of the time ::rotfl::--but they said it was good, so I guess I passed. :) They had us try on some sample pieces and told us about the clothing line we'd be wearing, and it sounds *really* neat. We're not getting paid or anything, but it'll be good exposure, and several different photographers will be giving us quality portfolio-worthy shots for free. Excitement!
Anyhoo, I'll post more info about the show as it gets closer. I don't know if anyone will want to go, but apparently there will be a wine tasting for those who come earlier, and it's a benefit for the Oregon Humane Society, so hey, maybe you'll enjoy.
Random aside: I was browsing through my LJ archive yesterday, and realized that I have blown out my ankle not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES in the past year. And two of them were just due to my own klutz factor.YAY!! I really have to stop breaking myself.
Party on Saturday night was pretty fun. Good snackage and "bucket juice" and some silliness involving MadLibs. Stacy, who threw said party, has a cute apartment with a cool bathroom. Yes, I know, "how cool can a bathroom be?" Well, I liked it, so deal. ;p Oddly enough, Stacy happened to know the chick who gave me that compliment at karaoke last week! ::rotfl:: She came in and said her hellos, and then she looked at me and was all, "You're that singer...!!" Heh, this town is too small, sometimes.
The Oregon Country Fair on Sunday was an interesting experience, I gotta say. There were actually some cool booths with funky crafts and things for sale, and I had a tasty lunch of Peruvian food. There were some interesting costumes and outfits on parade... or lack of outfits, as the case was, at times. ;p It kind of made me want to get back into costuming, though... as if I needed another creative itch to scratch. The two highlights, IMO, were the musical performances (the Yard Dogs in particular were an entertaining act, and ZOMG SWORD SWALLOWING) and a guy who demonstrated several different "caveman" methods for building fire.
And speaking of fire, the evening was capped off with a weenie roast and marshmallow toast at the Shack for Ben's birthday. Somebody brought this interesting strawberry cream tequila beverage that wasn't particularly strong, but taste-wise, it can basically be summed up as, "Strawberry Quik with a kick," heh. :)
Oh yeah, I saw PotC2 on Friday night, because it became apparent that I wouldn't be able to work it out on Sunday. (I wasn't liberated from the bus back from the Country Fair until almost 7:00p, bleh) It was fun and everything, but the beginning was rather slow, and it seemed like there was a lot of slapstick-ish goofball moments that didn't advance the plot at all. It was still fun, though, and the second half made up for the slowness in the first. My expectations were also appropriately lowered by the fact that it's a sequel, so overall, I am satisfied.
So, yeah, I dunno about the 3rd movie, but I'll probably go. I keep hearing the rumor that Keith Richards is supposed to be in the third PotC as Jack Sparrow's dad. That'd be too hilarious for me to *not* go see it.
Anyhoo, this week is looking much more bearable than last week. Things will be busy at the Job, but my evenings won't be quite so batty. Thank. Freaking. GOD.
