batskeets: (yan!)

Well, the word at the office is that my desk is being moved for the umpty-billionth time! Heh. I should just learn to never get settled in anywhere, shouldn't I? :)

So last night was good times! Wushu was fun, as always. I led the basics, warm-up kicks, and combos, and I think I did all right, but I'm still looking for that happy medium between "cool, laid-back person" and "authoritative coach." It's also tough to train for yourself *and* watch other people for mistakes at the same time. I understand more and more why Phil got so frustrated at times. It's rather nice that Nick came back from Japan recently, though, because he remembers a lot of the old school drills that we did in my first year and kind of stopped doing. Old school moves and good basics beat fruity-looking flourishes any day of the week!

After I got done with wushu, I got all gussied up and went to the photoshoot. The male members of my regular gaggle were busy, so I got Ben to come along as an escort. I figured the photographer was probably legit, judging from his work, but it was well after dark, and I didn't know how public the shooting locations would be, and it was, ultimately, a random dude from the internet, so yeah, safety in greater numbers. Ben was actually pretty happy about having the opportunity to observe and possibly learn some cool photography tricks, so it worked out.

I think the shoot actually went pretty well; the photographer did some really cool things with the available light, and he seemed pretty happy with what I was doing. He definitely knew what kind of shots he was after, and was a nice guy. He even let Ben try out his fancy-schmancy camera and take a few shots, which kind of shocked me. Lord knows I wouldn't let a guy I'd just met touch *my* expensive camera equipment, if I had such things! Oh, and he totally made my day when he told me that I could Photoshop the images however I want, if I feel like it. Yaaayyy! More opportunity to practice. :)

He also commented at one point that, "[I] really have the tough girl look down," and I almost had to laugh. I'm a nerdy gamer chick who grew up fairly tomboyish, does martial arts, and likes bad-ass goth clothes! Yeah, not exactly surprising that the tough chick thing seems to play more to my personality. :) It's the girly stuff that's harder.

After the shoot wrapped up, we went and did some karaoke, in a random fit of spontaneity. I owned some face with Pat Benatar and The Fugees, and we kind of stumbled through I Got You Babe, mostly because we couldn't figure out who was supposed to sing what part, heh. Sonny and Cher are not exactly prominent in my musical library. ;p

Tonight, I go forth and run like a crazy man! Or rather, like a pathetically slow crazy man. ::rotfl:: I may wuss out because I didn't get much sleep last night, but the jury's still out.
