I got all excited when I looked at Livejournal and saw people talking about snow, but then I realized that those people are in Portland. Grrr. The only snow I got to see was a small layer piled up on someone's car. Siiiigh.
In the ongoing saga of Dead Alphonse: I was all ready to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS, but in the middle of installation, I got a "cyclic redundancy check error," which stopped the installation, and which apparently indicates that there's something wrong with the CD, or something wrong with the CD-ROM drive. This happened on multiple install attempts, so I took out the Windows CD, and it was scratched all to hell, so it looks like the CD is the problem.
I am incredibly pissed off about it, because the CD was perfectly fine the last time I used it, and I've always kept it stored in the sleeve, so how it got scratched up like that is a mystery. I think I may have loaned it out at some point, so it might've happened when it was out of my hands... grrrr. That's a good $200 down the tubes. Either way, I'm royally cheesed off, and my computer is *still* broken. Argh!!
Anyway, on a more fun note: Brokeback Mountain re-enacted in 30 seconds by bunnies! FEAR THE BUNNIES.
Last night was good. We're revising/adding to the broadsword form, in order to get me over the 1-minute minimum for Berkeley, so I learned part of David's form, and holy craaaap, it's fun! I love the flowers and other spinny techniques; I feel like I can put some real fire into it, heh. I'm so pumped right now it's ridiculous. After practice, I had dinner, worked on the computer, and actually sat down and watched some TV. Imagine that.
Speaking of which... Project Runway Babble! I'm kind of WTF? about the winner. I was really expecting it to be Daniel or Santino, so Chloe was a surprise. I can live with a Chloe win, though. She was always consistent, her craftsmanship is awesome, and she's just a cute person. Definitely very professional. (and hell, the prison camp backstory? Talk about triumphing through adversity)
I kind of agree with Santino's comment that Chloe's collection "looks like a couch is comin' at ya." XD I thought that her 13th look and the final dress with the cutouts in the back were both very cool, but there were parts of the line that I really didn't love. It was very Attack of the 80's Prom Dresses, and not always in the best way. It was definitely the most cohesive collection, though, and I could see how the pieces related to each other.
I do, however, call bullshit on the judges calling Santino's collection "safe," because hi? It's only what they've been asking him for THE ENTIRE SEASON! He actually listens to their advice for ones, tones down "the Santino effect" and throws out the whickety-whack trim, and turned out some of the prettiest stuff he's ever made. Maybe he went too far in the opposite direction when toning it down, but I actually liked his line. The pieces didn't quite gel together as a collection, but on an individual level, pretty cool stuff.
Daniel's was just... yaaaawn. I was pissed at the idea that he might win, because his line didn't excite me. It looks wearable, sure, but it wasn't anything really special, IMHO. (I did love the white coat, though, in spite of that) Also, I have to agree with Asshat Kors; the Japanese/military influence didn't really come through for me, either.
Overall... meh. I'm waiting for Season 3.
That's all!
