Ah, Monday. The weekend was nice--some thunderstorms here and there, which doesn't happen a lot in the Northwest, so it was an interesting bit of variety. I had a good jog with Gizmo on Saturday, a good yoga session, some solid WoW time, and just a lot of relaxation. Yay!

The following should be spoiler-free:

Saw Batman Begins on Friday, and HOLY CRAP it was awesome. The casting was really excellent, for one. Of course, people like Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Liam Neeson always put in good performances--even in questionable films--but they added some great color to the story, even with characters that didn't have as much screen time. Also, there was Ken Watanabe, whom I feel a near-irrational amount of goodwill towards for The Last Samurai. Oh, and Gary Oldman, who was so very not-Gary-Oldman as Det. Gordon that I forgot to mention him until I looked at IMDB. He really fell into the role. Holy crap, so good!

I could kind of see where, in a few places, folks might think that Christian Bale was a bit over-the-top as Batman, but overall, IMHO, he actually had a good feel for both Batman *and* Bruce Wayne, which says a lot for him. Keaton had a good bead on Bruce, and Kilmer made a decent Batman, and, well, let's just say that I still haven't forgiven George Clooney for *his* performance. :p But, none of those guys quite hit the mark on both sides.

I also loved the styling and the general atmosphere of the movie, so much so that I kind of wish they'd re-do the other films, because they just look crappy by comparison. The way they handled the tech was rather fun, too--a bit silly at times, in that "what kind of crazy technology would I need if I wanted to become a costumed vigilante superhero?" sort of way, but at the same time, oddly plausible. So yeah, if you haven't seen this movie yet, then get out of your chair and GO RIGHT NOW. I'm not kidding!

I had something else to mention, but I forgot what it was. So, I'm off!

From what I've heard (which may or may not be 100% true), Batman Begins isn't a prequel; it's a completely new "restart" the the franchise. They aren't neccesarily redoing the others, but starting fresh altogether. It would be great if those rumors are true.

Sadly, around here matinee prices are 7 dollars. I won't be going to the movies very often.
