So, not everything the past few days has been terrible. Here are the good bits:

First off, I have to say thanks to the local folks (i.e. those who have actually known the particulars for more than a few minutes) for your concern; it's good to have support close at hand. It's not even really *my* personal tragedy--more of a tragedy-by-proxy, I guess--but everyone has been super-nice, and it means a lot. :)

About mid-day on Friday, I took a break from the insanity and helped do a Wushu demonstration on campus. It has really dawned on me lately how much I love doing demos. Competing still scares the crap out of me, but now that I have some more experience and am not just a flabby, totally out-of-shape newbie, I actually get a lot of enjoyment out of doing demos.

Anyway, I had a ton of nervous energy and frustration to let out, so I felt pretty powerful. My mind was entirely elsewhere, though, so I wasn't concentrating, and I definitely messed up in a few places. The crowd didn't seem to notice, though, so it was okay. Also, I randomly saw some video footage of the demo from Keigo, via [livejournal.com profile] rantar, which was a nice surprise. :)

On Friday night, we saw Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! Wheee! I admit that it's been a while since I've read the books, *especially* the first one, but I recognized some of my favorite bits from the book, and they were well preserved. :) The movie had sort of a quirky and frenetic pace, but it seemed so fitting for the material. The casting was actually pretty decent, too. I have a weird soft spot for Sam Rockwell, so that's kind of a gimme, but Mos Def actually did a nice, low-key, Ford-ish sort of nutty, in contrast to the more over-the-top Zaphod variety of nutty. The Arthur/Trillian schmoopy stuff was a bit much, but eh, Hollywood likes to insert gratuitous macking whenever possible.

Anyway, to sum it up, it was a lot of fun, it seemed like one of the more faithful book adaptions that I've seen in my day, and that "So Long and Thanks For All The Fish" opening song will be stuck in my head for *days*. ::rotfl::

I watched the second Mirror Universe episode of Enterprise on Saturday, and it was lots of fun. The first half seemed kind of filler-y, and I kind of wish they'd done one 90-minute episode instead of two hour-long eps. But, the ending was unexpected and awesome. Eehehehehee. :D I want to track down and watch the Mirror Universe episodes from TOS and DS9, *especially* the latter, because I haven't been exposed to the DS9 eps at all. I actually have a graphic novel that goes over some of the MU stuff from TOS (I think it's still at Mom and Dad's house), so I have a pretty good idea of what that was like.

I also played a buttload of WoW, got Winkletoes to lv. 16, and used up all of Fizzywig's rested XP, so I started working on Bobblethumb, a.k.a. my new Warrior character. I must say that being a tank is pretty awesome in some ways, and Bobblethumb will be great for solo questing. Also, Bobblethumb is *wonderfully* color-coordinated, thus far. I had Winkletoes make her a blue shirt to go with the blue hair. Yee! I am way too concerned with my little gnomes' fashions. ;p

I should play my Horde character at some point, too. I may also start a night elf character on Sargeras, because Byron has been bugging me about joining his guild there, and I'm rather curious about the night elves, esp. after Damnathan ran me (as Fiz) out to the elven lands to get the expert cookbook. ElfLand is *pretty*, y'all. But, I already have the Army of Color-Coordinated Gnomes thing going on my primary server, so if I'm going to do the Elf thing, might as well do it somewhere new.

This whole WoW thing is clearly getting out of hand. LMAO!

Meme!

Your Birthdate: April 27
Your birth on the 27th day of the month (9 energy) adds a tone of selflessness and humanitarianism to your life path. Certainly, you are one who can work very well with people, but at the same time you need a good bit of time to be by yourself to rest and meditate. There is a very humanistic and philanthropic approach in most of things that you do.

This birthday helps you be broadminded, tolerant, generous and very cooperative. You are the type of person who uses persuasion rather than force to achieve your ends. You tend to be very sensitive to others' needs and feelings, and you are able to give much in the way of friendship without expecting a lot in return.

Anyway, looks like some stuff might be happening this weekend. I don't know what, exactly, but something. We also have two really fun demos coming up! One is on Friday for FLIS Day (a.k.a. that event where I did a J-Rock culture presentation 2 years in a row), which should be really fun, because we get to teach the kids some basics! The other is on Sunday in Portland, and I'm really pumped about it. I'd better make a separate post for that, because this one is really long. ::rotfl::
