Re: the quote, that was one of our proposed pickup lines for Keith to use at the after party. LOL :)

I've been working on this recap while waiting for builds to finish, so it might be a bit long. Anyway: Pictures from Collegiates! I still have to work out the compression issues on the video, but the pictures are up.

Overall, I'd say the weekend was kind of a mixed bag. Let's recap:

Van ride down was kind of crap. For one, we didn't have a tape deck in our van, so we had to flip through radio stations in the hopes of finding something we could stand to listen to. For another, our van was the more sparsely populated of the two, so there was just less silliness in general. Robert gets a gold star for lightening the mood when things were getting us down, though--sometimes, random comments will just fall out of his mouth like pearls of nutcaseness, but it got us to laugh, which was something I think we all needed a little of.

We went to a really yummy Mexican place for dinner on Friday. The wet burritos were *wonderful*. However, after having had mexican food for lunch--or rather, Taco Bell's version of it--it was kind of a bad decision. ;p Ken's house was nice and spacious, and there was a completely adorable little girl (the tenants' kid, I guess) running around the house randomly, and peeking at us from behind the doorframes, and she was SO CUTE that I wanted to take her home with me, LOL. I got to sleep in an actual bed that night, which was awesome, but I still woke up about 80-billion times during the night.

The tournament itself was totally smokin'. There were a few chicks from Stanford and Berkeley that recognized me from beginners last year, which was a surprise, but it was nice chatting it up with them. I had a great time watching the various routines, and it was a far sight better than last year, because I actually felt like I knew a few things about what good wushu looks like, and I knew the names of some of the top competitors, and so forth. I learned a few random tidbits from Keith while watching the advanced sets--make no mistake, he has a lot of knowledge when it comes to wushu.

Oh yeah, best sparring set ever: not one, not two, but THREE guys doing monkey style, and ending with the "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" pose. That owned me beyond all description. :)

As far as my sets, they were kind of ass--well, okay, not *total* ass, but I could have done better. I got kind of a raw deal with changquan, because I didn't have a new form ready, and the form I did last year was too short, so I got a big fat time deduction and probably came in last. I was really calm when I did it, though, so it felt good, at least. Nanquan, on the other hand, was terrifying. Oh my freaky Jesus, I was scared. I actually blanked out for a second early in the form, and that threw me for a loop, but I made it through without any big screwups, and I got a shiny. :D (notice that I'm throwing up the horns in that picture--I'm so effing metal :D) I'm kind of pissed, because I could have done a lot better if I hadn't let the stage fright get to me, but I'm just glad to have gotten through it.

Stupid moment: when they were giving out medals for nanquan, the judge was trying to put my medal on me, but my head's so big that it got stuck on my ponytail, and he couldn't get it to go down around my neck. ::rotfl:: And of course, the guy was shorter than me, which also didn't help matters. Note to self: duck down nice and low the next time you get a medal. ;p

The "banquet/after party" was, uh, less than stellar. It wasn't much of a banquet, because they only had snacky food like chips and fruit. And it wasn't much of a party, either, because there was no alcohol, and nobody was dancing. It felt like middle school all over again. ;p It's kind of disturbing how reliant some people are on alcohol when they party--personally, I'll dance anywhere, anytime. We Oregon folk took it upon ourselves to get the party started, and we lit up the dance floor for a couple hours before bailing out. There was a *real* after party at some guy's house that was happening after the banquet, apparently, but the rest of the team wimped out and didn't want to go. Jeezy. :p

Sunday was pretty quiet. We did get an FM adapter for the CD player, though, so we had some decent music going. Highlights included stopping at In-N-Out for lunch, the obligatory Disney Music sing-along, playing a game of I-Spy at night, and telling our respective First Kiss stories.

One of the things that bummed me out most at the tournament was that, every time I was lining up for an event, they'd call for [livejournal.com profile] junsiew, and I had to tell them that she wasn't there. I've known her for so long that we can tell each other pretty much anything, so the fact that she wasn't there hit me kind of hard, I guess. She's always willing to listen when I need it, and not a lot of people do that for me.

I have to thank everybody on the Oregon team, though, for making lots of noise and cheering me on while I was competing. I was watching the videos I had on my digital camera, and heard all the hooting and hollering they were doing from the stands, and I realized how good it was having them backing me up. That really got me through those forms, *especially* during Nanquan when I was just nervous out of my freaking mind.

IT'S OVER!!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that last week, TiVo recorded something else instead of Lost on Wednesday while I was at practice... and I just found out that it was JIN'S BACKSTORY EPISODE. NOOOOOOOO!! ;_; Damnit, the Koreans are my favorite. Now I'm doubly annoyed that I missed it. Rrrgh!

Yeah, the screaming bright yellow sleeves on those jackets aren't exactly my favorite, but they do make it easy for us to find each other in a crowd, LOL :) I totally wish you could have been there, too. I'll try to bring home some gold at Berkeley!

BTW, did your brother make it to the demo last Thursday? I guess we were the only group actually performing on the stage, so we were first *and* last. :)

Yeah, my brother saw you guys demo-ing at OSU! He thought it was great. He told me about it and then started complaining that it wasn't fair that U of O has much better club sports. :) UO Wushu - reason #4128382 that U of O is better than OSU. ;)
