Yes, somebody in line at the movie theater recognized my t-shirt! Hee. :D
So,
rantar called me earlier today, and told me that he and the rest of the crew were planning to arrive at the movie theater around 8pm. We all had tickets for the 10:30 show. For those who don't want to do the math, that's 2.5 HOURS of sitting in line! I didn't actually arrive until almost 8:30, but that was still a long time to wait.
I brought my knitting, though, so that occupied my hands, while I intermittently chatted with people. :) They also brought some cards, Tim brought his Game Boy Advance, and Kim bought a sketchbook at Target, so I wasn't the only one with timewasting activities in tow. And, we got incredibly choice seats as a reward for our patience. No nosebleed seats or neck-craning for us!
So, Return of the King was very gratifying for me. Gwaaaaa. :D
It rocked. There were some truly awesome action sequences, for one. Eowyn did some pretty awesome brawling, and as always, Legolas had way, *way* more style than should ever be allowed in one man--er, elf. Everyone did an excellent job acting, from the comic relief bits to the solemn and grave speeches.
And this is probably going to sound weird, but was anyone else holding their breath a little when Pippin sang that one rather mournful song? Billy Boyd apparently has a pretty nice tenor, and you know how I love a good singing voice. Ehehee. :)
The ending seemed a bit drawn out--there were a few times when I thought they were going to end the movie, and they didn't--but as I heard someone say while leaving the theater, "if you're wrapping up ten *hours* of film, the ending's gotta be long." Too true, too true.
I was still rather weepy during the very last scene, though. Not as much as I did at the end of The Last Samurai, but they still got me. ;_;
As an aside, I have to register my slight annoyance at the few reviewers who gave RotK unfavorable reviews, because they felt it wasn't a strong stand-alone piece. Hello? It's not really *supposed* to be evaluated as a stand-alone piece. The books were a trilogy, and as such, the movies are also a trilogy. In fact, they might very well have done The Lord of the Rings as one, very long movie, if anyone in their right mind were willing to park their butt in a movie theater for 8-10 hours of non-stop film. It's three movies, but it's still *one* over-arcing story.
ANYWAY, my errands today went well, although I didn't make it to the Rec today for lifting, because I loaned
junsiew my little 13-inch TV, and wound up spending a good 1.5 hours hanging around and talking at her temporary room in Bean. It's pretty quiet in there with a mere 5 kids left in the East side of the building, so maybe I should drop in more often over the break.
I fixed my crash-happy Illustrator install today. All it took was a Windows Update. Feeling a little silly now.
To do tomorrow: pick up Kinko's order, call webhost about e-mail server problems, knitknitknit. And freelance, of course.
