I think I've seen bits and pieces of the Harry Potter movies far too much over the past couple days--they've been on a continual spool on one of the movie channels, and it's starting to get to the point where I can recite sections from memory. That's a liiiittle scary, folks. Truth be told, a lot of it can be blamed on the fact that all three of us prefer to have some kind of background noise when we're hanging around the house, so that usually winds up being the TV, and it tends to seep in after a while, even when you're not actively paying attention to it.

So, Thanksgiving was pretty okay up here. Cooking was kind of a team effort, and we wound up making a holy assload of food--James baked rolls and a pie yesterday, and today we worked on making turkey cutlets, sweet cornbread stuffing, mac & cheese (not from a box!), broccoli, garlicky greens, and mashed sweet potatoes. God, I think I remembered everything--it's hard to keep track, because *damn*, it was a lot of food. We also totally forgot about the cranberry sauce that we had stowed in the cupboard, so I'll have to remember to work on that when we start whittling down the leftovers.

It was a real departure from what I'm accustomed to eating with my family, and from what J's accustomed to having with his, but it all tasted great. That's one thing our families did right--we actually make fairly respectable cooks.

OMG, and I also found raspberry lambic at Safeway the other day, so I just had to get some! My dad had me sample the stuff a few times, and it's *so* good--all fruity-tasting and sweet-smelling, but with some fizz and that nice little buzz that comes with al-key-hol. :)

During/after the food, I made James watch The Full Monty, because he's pretty much decided that Robert Carlyle is the shizz (which he is), but he hadn't seen this particular film yet, even though it's been sitting there on my shelf this whole time, waiting to be watched. ;p It's still a fun movie, so I'm glad I bought it way back when.

All the food, especially the tryptophan-laden turkey, made me terribly sleepy, though. I wound up taking a good-sized nap in the evening, which hasn't exactly done wonders for my word count. But hey, I'm slowly rolling up on 40k, which is my borderline goal, so it's all okay.

My ma called briefly today to remind me about a couple things, and say Happy Thanksgiving. God, my relationship with my family has gotten so shoddy since I started school. Granted, I didn't always *want* to deal with my family at certain times (long story), but even now, when I would actually like to be around more, other things keep getting in the way. I suppose it's a sign that I really *don't* live at home anymore, but it's kind of depressing. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to move farther South--as much as I hate certain parts of California, I always liked being near my dad's family when I was little, and we were only living a 2-hour drive away from them.

Anyhoo, I have no idea what I'm going to do tomorrow, and that's a pretty good thing. I needed a bit of a break to get me through these last weeks of class and exams.

I'm going to polish off this chapter, and then consider sacking out again.
